About Jessica Vero Nail Design

In 2003 I started my training at Blanche MacDonald in the Makeup Artistry Program where I studied every type of makeup from beauty and fashion to special effects and airbrush application. After graduation I began working in the movie industry for one of Vancouver’s top special effects labs. I enjoyed the excitement of the movie industry and loved the creativity of special effects but the work was too inconsistent for me. In 2004 I decided to return to Blanche Macdonald to take the Nail Technician Program. While going to school I continued to do freelance makeup for special events, graduations and weddings.

Shortly after graduating from the program, I received a job at a salon. This is when I realized I had found my calling, doing both nails and makeup in a salon environment. I really enjoyed the work and loved that I was able to build relationships with returning customers rather than the one time makeup clients I had before. While working at the salon I was also fortunate to work under two other nail techs, both that were very established in the nail industry. This helped me improve my techniques very quickly and learn lots of new procedures.

During this time, with training in airbrush makeup and body painting I was able to start my own business working part time as a freelance airbrush artist. I started with just doing airbrush tattoos for special events but I soon expanded my skills and began doing custom airbrush work such as murals in people houses, window painting and body painting for photo shoots.

I continued to work for the salon until the beginning of 2009, this is when I decided to expand my business and start Jessica Vero Nail Design. This gave me the chance to expand and diversify my love for nail art, as well as explore new ventures, focusing on my true passion nail design. December 2011 I started my nail art blog Nailed Daily, I did this as a challenge to myself. For one year I did 365 different nail designs one for each day of the year. I successfully completed this project Nov 30, 2012.

In 2013 I decided to compete for Nails Magazines Next Top Nail Artist, this was an online international nail art competition to find the next top nail artist for one of the leading Nail Magazines. I am proud to say that I made it as a semi finalist in the top 24, this journey ended sooner than I would have liked, but helped me figure out what I truly wanted for my nail career. I wanted to be an educator for my favorite product line. In February 2014 I travelled to head office of Hand & Nail Harmony in Brea, California where I completed my training as an Bachelor Educator. As a Harmony educator, I will remain up to date with the highest level of training and product knowledge as well as educating other nail techs on Gelish soak off gel polish and the large range of acrylic and hard gel products.
