Cinco de Mayo

Every year on the 5th of May La Casita Gastown hosts a gigantic party with delicious food and crazy drink specials.

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for “fifth of May”) is a celebration held on May 5. It is celebrated in U.S. cities with a significant Mexican population and regionally in Mexico, primarily in the state of Puebla, where the holiday is called El Día de la Batalla de Puebla (English: The Day of the Battle of Puebla). The date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride, and to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War. In the state of Puebla, the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín. Contrary to widespread popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico’s Independence Day—the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico.

Mexican Independence Day

Every year on the 15th of September La Casita Gastown has a massive party and this year there is no difference. Come and have fun with us! No cover.

We start at 6pm and party until 3am.

Mexican Independence Day Celebration

The Mexican War of Independence (1810–1821) was an armed conflict between the people of Mexico and the Spanish colonial authorities which started on September 16, 1810. The movement, which became known as the Mexican War of Independence, was led by Mexican-born Spaniards, Mestizos and Amerindians who sought independence from Spain. It started as an idealistic peasants’ rebellion against their colonial masters, but ended as an unlikely alliance between Mexican ex-royalists and Mexican guerrilla insurgents.
